I. ARCA News on Peace Education
- Events, training courses and conferences - |
1. EU
27 October, Deadline for the Application to the courses organised by The Austrian Study Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) in January 2007. The two courses are organised in the framework of its International Civilian Peacekeeping and Peace-building Training Program (IPT):
February, 12-16 in Bratislava, Kezmarok: ALPICOM staff exchange - Study visit within ALPICOM learning partnership project. The event will consist of two parts: training/seminar and field visit. Alternative topics for training part are Collaborative planning, Conciliation commissions in Roma Integration Program (RI Program), Training approaches for transforming societies (Advocacy, building civil society, etc.). Selection of the topic is up to the participants. Field visit will be in Kezmarok, north-eastern Slovakia. Taking part in closing event of RI Program and visiting some Roma settlements and projects supported by RI Program. 2. GERMANY

3. ITALY
January, 10th is deadline for applications to the Master Course on "Mediation of social and intercultural conflicts" of the University of Florence. It's a one-year long Master course that will be held in Italian and start on February. The aim of the master is to train a new generation of professional mediators who will be able to intervene and mediate both in conflict between individuals and groups from diverse cultural background, as well as in conflicts between communities and local administration on issues like urban planning, environmental conflicts and the like. 4. HUNGARY

5. SLOVAKIA
January, 17th; Bratislava PIR Working group focused on housing – as a part of Roma integration program. One day meeting of working group of state representatives and NGO activists focused on housing of Roma people in excluded communities in Slovakia.
February, 28th Roundtable- Housing - part of Roma integration program, Bratislava
Roundtable discussion of stakeholders within housing of Roma excluded communities, expecting participation of state representatives and involved NGOs.
January 2007 - March 2007 (Poprad): Process aspects of terrain social work in excluded communities - 5 trainings for community social workers as a part of the long term contract with Social Development Fund in Slovakia. The Training session is the 3rd module of long-term educational program for community social workers and their assistants who are working in excluded Roma communities in Slovakia. Dates: Dates: 17.-19. January 2007, 24.-26. January 2007, 7.-9. February.2007, 14.-16. February 2007, 14.-16. March 2007 and 28.-30. March 2007.

1. EU: ARCA Project
Last 2-6 July 2006 the first event of the ARCA Project took place in Marly-le-Roi, near Paris. The report of the seminar “Improving and assessing skills for civilian peace missions” is now available here: "Seminar ARCA ReportEvent1.pdf"

2. GERMANY
BSV: “Civil courage for Human Rights in Belarus and Germany” (Zivilcourage für Menschenrechte in Belarus und Deutschland) A Collection of materials and stories about courageous action and resistance in both countries from fascism/Stalinism till today. The 16 stories were collected and discussed by a bilateral group of young researchers and are available in German (40 page brochure) and Russian (Compact Disc). 4. ITALY
CSDC: in February 2007 An abstract of the Final Report of the Research on Peace Operators and Intercultural Mediators will be available on line (in Italian and English) at the Csdc website: www.pacedifesa.org. The research project lead by the Csdc and conducted by 7 partners was financed by the European social fund and 7 Regional Governments. The aim of the survey was to explore the competencies, the training standards, the job market and the institutionalisation of the profession of Mediator and Peace Operator in different fields - social, intercultural and international.

5. INTERNATIONAL
Russia: “Isskustvo shitj v mire s samym soboj, s drugimi, s prirodoj” The Russian book presents materials for class-teachers to enhance the social-, intercultural and conflict-transformation skills of his/her school students. More infos at center_post@tut.by

6. SPAIN
NOVA announces: 3rd insert on Nonviolence and Nonviolent action in Middle East in quarterly Magazine ONGC; The elaboration of documentary on Nonviolent activists and activities inside Irak; A Didactic DVD on Nonviolent experiences in the Middle East (all materials will be available from end January). | III. Presentation of ARCA partner organizations |
Federation for Social Defence (Bund für Soziale Verteidigung - BSV). BSV is an independent non-governmental organisation based in Germany. It was founded in 1989 to develop concepts and projects of non-violence defence and peacebuilding. The federation unites people and organisations of different ideological, religious and political convictions and affiliations who consider non-violence the only answer to the threats and dangers human kind faces. BSV works in three areas: Nonviolent Intervention; Advocacy and lobbywork to replace armed forces by non-violent means; Training and Education for a culture of non violence in Germany and Europe.

PDCS stands for Partners for Democratic Change Slovakia. PDCS is independent non-governmental nonprofit organization that provides professional education and consultation-advisory services and issues publications. PDCS is part of a network of similar institutions in 13 countries Partners for Democratic Change International. The mission of PDCS is to help develop and promote culture of democracy, expand democratic approaches and mechanisms for dialogue and conflict prevention. We fulfil PDCS mission by working with nonprofit organizations, public administration institutions and cross-sector partnerships in development programs and by arranging cultured dialogue among various interest groups.

1. INTERNATIONAL
- India: In November and December 2006 in Gujarat, India, Peace teachers’ trainings took place thanks to BOCS volunteers, see http://bocs.eu for more details.
- Middle-East: from January 5th to January 7th NOVA announces the Quaker Conference in Ramallah “The need for a new coalition” and the Preparatory meetings for support of Bilin meeting on Nonviolence;
