Nova, Center for Social Innovation (NOVA)

ARCA Partners presentations

Nova - Center for Social Innovation, promotes social innovation with popular participation and intercultural dialogue to help to generate alternative socioeconomic models to globalization, a culture of peace based on civil alternatives of defense and a more sustainable and participatory society.

It collaborates with organizations and institutions interested in starting projects that promote social innovation and provide participative tools and services that allow citizens to become actively involved in these processes, including dialogue between cultures wherever possible.

The Nova association was born in the year 2000, but the team behind it has the experience of having taken active part in the Centre d'Estudis Joan Bardina (1983 - 1991) and in EcoConcern (1992-1999), from which it organised the Catalan Forum for Rethinking Society (1996 - 2001) within the framework of the Alliance for a responsible, plural and united world (1995 - 2001). Since 2003, Nova is a member organization of Nonviolent Peaceforce and through the NoViolenciaActiva Team (called "Forces de Pau Noviolentes" till 2006) it promotes activities on culture of peace and nonviolence trying to implement systems of nonviolent intervention and civilian resistance.

Some of the active projects about peace and nonviolence are:

  • Support to the Middle East civil organizations that seek a noviolent strategy for the transformation of the conflicts of the region. [+ info / www.launf.net]
  • Project to reconvert the Figueres' Sant Ferran Castle and the Castle of Montjuïc (Barcelona) in Castles for peace. This project wants to integrate both castles into a Catalan network of museums and centers for peace. [+ info]
  • International Gatherings for the culture of peace in the Figueres' Sant Ferran Castle and in the Castle of Montjuïc (Barcelona), to discuss about nonviolent defense systems and Civil Peace Servicies. [+ info / http://castellpau.novacis.org/].
